Four types of polishing alumina are available, graded according to their principal particle size; medium (1µm), fine (0.3µm) and extra fine (0.5µm). Alumina suspensions are suitable for use after diamond grinding or as a final polish (0.05µm).
All are supplied as a thick suspension in a 180ml polythene bottle.
This material is suspended in distilled water. Material remains in suspension when diluted with 3 parts of distilled water or less by volume. Dilution with up to 5 parts of distilled water is acceptable.
