Lam Plan are based in Gaillard, France and specialise in manufacturing lapping and polishing solutions. Lam Plan have a range of machines and consumables to fit almost any sample preparation application. The equipment is designed and manufactured to ensure long, trouble-free use.
In this blog post, we would like to introduce you to their advanced grinder/polisher range - the Smartlam machines.
Smartlam 2.0
The most versatile manual polishing machine.
The Smartlam 2.0 is a versatile, compact, single-plate polisher/grinder that can be configured with 200mm-300mm plates and can hold up to 6 samples. It offers the user a wide range of possibilities both in manual and semi-automatic polishing.
Ergonomic and easy-to-use, the Smartlam 2.0 is entirely controlled using a colour touchscreen equipped with an intuitive interface. The internal memory can store up to 9 programmes which are exportable via the USB port.
Due to the 0 - 250 N spring, the Smartlam 2.0 can offer variable pressure depending on the application.
Although a basic instrument, the functionality of the Smartlam 2.0 can be extended with the additions of a semi-automatic central pressure head, recirculation/sedimentation pump and dosing unit MM909M.
The adaptive pressure head can convert the Smartlam 2.0 to a semi-automatic polisher with central pressure for up to 5 samples with variable pressure from 2 – 250 N to suit a range of applications.
The Smartlam 2.0 provides ease of use and requires little training, so is pitched as an entry-level polisher/grinder.
Smartlam 3.0
Individual pressure semi-automatic polishing machine.
The Smartlam 3.0 is an economic solution for automatic pre-polishing and polishing of metallographic samples. It can also be used with 200mm-300mm plates.
The 3.0 uses the reliable base of the Smartlam 2.0, but also is equipped with a motorised, retractable head, composed of a 3 cell sample-holder and individual pneumatic pressure system. The individual pneumatic pressure system is controlled by the electronic proportional valve, ensuring good polishing regularity.
The automatic motorised head compactness is due to its strategically placed power supply on the side of the machine. The head rotates to free the workspace and allows the easy change of the polishing support and the cleaning of the plate and bowl.
Dosing Unit MM909M and recirculation/sedimentation pumps are also available to extend the Smartlam 3.0 functionality. The dosing unit provides programmed distribution of 3 different liquids, using 3 peristaltic pumps and 1 outlet to drive an external pump.
Cameo Discs
The Cameo Discs, featured in our recent post, can be used with the Smartlam machines. The Cameo Discs are fixed abrasive diamond discs, ideal for rapid grinding of metallographic samples. These are available with either self-adhesive or magnetic backs.
